The Danish Parliament has approved changes to the competition law, effective from July 1, 2024, aimed at enhancing competition efficiency.

The Danish Parliament has passed amendments to the competition law, empowering the Competition and Consumer Authority to conduct market investigations in specific industries to identify anti-competitive behavior. If detrimental practices are found, the Competition Council can mandate companies to alter their conduct following a thorough consultation process. Additionally, the authority can now require notification of potentially anti-competitive mergers, even if they fall below current approval thresholds. The amendments also introduce new guidelines for calculating fines for competition law violations, aligning them more closely with the economic harm caused by the infringement and in line with EU practices.
