On 4 March 2026, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) issued a draft determination proposing to grant authorisation to Countrywide Australasia Limited. This authorisation would allow Countrywide and its members, who are independent foodservice distributors, to collectively negotiate trade terms, including pricing, with suppliers.
The ACCC's proposal aims to enhance the bargaining power of these independent distributors, potentially leading to better trade terms and conditions. The proposed authorisation is set for a duration of five years.
The ACCC is currently inviting submissions from the public regarding this draft determination. Interested parties have until Friday, 20 March 2026, to provide their feedback before the ACCC makes its final decision.
Further details about the application and the submission process can be found on the ACCC’s public register.
