The Bundeskartellamt has approved the acquisition of Rhein Main Rohstoffe GmbH by Theo Steil GmbH & Co. KG. Both companies are active in the collection and recycling of scrap iron and non-ferrous metals at a regional level.

The acquisition was cleared in the first phase of merger control as it is not expected to significantly restrict competition. The merger is seen as beneficial for enhancing the industry's structural diversity in the long run, particularly in promoting low-emission steel production through the use of recycled scrap.

There are no significant overlaps in the companies' catchment areas, with Theo Steil mainly operating in western and eastern Germany, while Rhein Main Rohstoffe focuses on the Frankfurt region. The investigation found that the acquisition does not raise concerns about an uncontrolled scope of action in scrap metal processing.

Market investigations indicate that all participants will continue to face sufficient competitive pressure in the future, considering the parties' market positions and competitors' activities in different markets.
