Marie Östman Takes Helm as Director General of Swedish Competition Authority

Marie Östman has been appointed as the new Director General of the Swedish Competition Authority, set to begin her role on January 30, 2025.


Marie Östman, who has been with the Swedish Competition Authority since 2018 as Chief Legal Officer and Head of the Legal and Litigation Unit, has been appointed as the new Director General. With over 20 years of experience in the authority's supervisory areas, she brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role.

Östman has previously worked at the Government Offices of Sweden and in a commercial law firm, enhancing her expertise in competition law and regulatory matters. She expressed her gratitude for the appointment, stating, 'I am honoured to have been entrusted with the role of Director General of the Swedish Competition Authority.'

She looks forward to advancing the authority's supervisory activities and advocacy work alongside her dedicated colleagues. Östman will officially take on her new responsibilities starting January 30, 2025.
