Polish Competition Authority Cracks Down on Lack of Price Transparency in Car Washes and Parking Lots

12.08.2024 | Polish competition authority

The Polish competition authority conducted inspections on 84 parking lots and 125 car washes, revealing that nearly 23% of businesses fail to properly inform consumers about service prices.

The Polish competition authority, UOKiK, inspected 84 parking lots and 125 car washes across the country, totaling 209 businesses. Almost a quarter of them were found to not adequately inform consumers about service prices.

Main irregularities included the absence of price lists, ambiguous or illegible pricing for arriving drivers, and unclear presentation of prices.

UOKiK President emphasized consumers' right to clear pricing information and the obligation of businesses to provide visible, unambiguous, and comparable price lists.

Penalties of up to 20,000 PLN can be imposed on businesses for inadequate price information, with over half of non-compliant businesses taking corrective actions post-inspection.

UOKiK's actions aim to protect drivers, not limited to inspections in car washes and parking lots but also extending to fuel quality assessments and monitoring unfair practices by parking lot operators.
