The Autorité de la concurrence examined mergers in the meat-cutting sector below national notification thresholds, applying the CJEU Towercast judgement, and dismissed the case due to lack of evidence of anticompetitive practices.

The Autorité de la concurrence reviewed mergers involving Akiolis, Saria, and Verdannet in the meat-cutting sector, finding no evidence of an overall geographic market allocation plan or anticompetitive purpose. The mergers, not subject to ex ante review, did not constitute an unlawful agreement under Article 101 TFEU and French Commercial Code. The sector faces challenges due to declining cattle and pig herds, with the Autorité's decision setting a precedent for examining mergers below notification thresholds for antitrust issues.
