27.01.2025 | Latvian competition authority
On January 23, 2025, the Latvian competition authority, known as the Competition Council (KP), approved the acquisition of SIA Haitek Latvia by UAB DOJUS Forest. The KP concluded that the merger would not cause significant harm to competition in the market.
UAB DOJUS Forest is a newly established company founded in 2024 specifically for the purpose of acquiring SIA Haitek Latvia. Its affiliated company, SIA DOJUS Latvia, primarily engages in the sale of agricultural machinery, equipment rental, and operational leasing. While SIA DOJUS Latvia sells new harvester heads, it does not sell the forestry machinery itself. In contrast, SIA Haitek Latvia distributes forestry machinery and its spare parts within Latvia.
The KP noted that the overlap in operations between UAB DOJUS Forest and SIA Haitek Latvia in the Latvian market is relatively minor. After evaluating the information provided by the companies and the data available to the KP, it was determined that the merger would not significantly alter the market structure, reduce competition, or create or strengthen a dominant position in the market where the merging parties operate.
To prevent significant reductions in competition resulting from mergers, the Competition Council requires approval for transactions that meet the criteria set out in the Competition Law. This regulatory oversight ensures that market concentration does not lead to structural changes that could limit consumer choices or result in non-competitive pricing for goods and services in the long term. More information about merger control in Latvia can be found on the Competition Council's website under the 'Merger Control' section.
