The Italian Competition Authority has intervened to ensure that the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (FITP) provides clear information to consumers regarding non-optional service fees associated with ticket purchases for the ongoing BNL Internationals in Italy 2025.
In a move described as moral suasion, the authority emphasized the importance of transparency from the initial point of contact, urging the FITP to disclose any additional fees that would affect the final price consumers pay. This action was prompted by concerns that failing to provide such information could violate consumer protection laws, specifically Articles 20, 21, and 22 of the Consumer Code, which aim to safeguard consumer choice and prevent misleading pricing.
Following the authority's guidance, the FITP has updated its ticket sales website to include a notice about the service fee, which ranges from €1.50 to 7% of the ticket price. Similar updates have been made across other event websites managed by the federation. Furthermore, the FITP has committed to ensuring that all its event websites will display the exact service fee for each ticket type at the beginning of the purchasing process by June.
