16.10.2024 | Greek competition authority

The Competition Authority has unanimously approved the acquisition of joint control by two companies in the renewable energy sector, ensuring no significant competition concerns arise.

The Competition Authority has approved the creation of a joint venture through the acquisition of joint control by 'MOTOR OIL RENEWABLE ENERGY ΜΟΝΟΠΡΟΣΩΠΗ Α.Ε.' and 'ΤΕΡΝΑ ΕΝΕΡΓΕΙΑΚΗ ΑΝΩΝΥΜΗ ΒΙΟΜΗΧΑΝΙΚΗ ΕΜΠΟΡΙΚΗ ΤΕΧΝΙΚΗ ΕΤΑΙΡΕΙΑ' over 'ΑΙΟΛΙΚΗ ΠΡΟΒΑΤΑ ΤΡΑΪΑΝΟΥΠΟΛΕΩΣ Μ.Α.Ε.', in accordance with competition law.

'MOTOR OIL RENEWABLE ENERGY' is involved in the production, supply, and trading of electricity from renewable sources, while 'ΤΕΡΝΑ ΕΝΕΡΓΕΙΑΚΗ' focuses on the construction and operation of renewable energy facilities. The target company, 'ΑΙΟΛΙΚΗ,' will engage in electricity production and supply at a wholesale level.

The Competition Authority assessed the transaction's impact on relevant markets, including electricity production and supply at wholesale and retail levels, construction of electricity generation units, cumulative representation entities for renewable energy producers, and natural gas supply at a wholesale level. It concluded that the transaction would not significantly alter competition conditions or lead to anti-competitive behavior.

Based on its evaluation, the Competition Authority unanimously approved the concentration, determining that it does not raise serious doubts regarding its compatibility with competition requirements in the relevant markets.
