The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) has launched an educational campaign focusing on the importance of protecting personal data. The campaign warns that passwords, personal, and banking information can easily fall into the wrong hands if individuals are not cautious, especially children who are particularly vulnerable.

In today's digital world, people share vast amounts of data about themselves through online activities such as shopping, entertainment, and communication. This makes data protection a growing challenge for everyone.

One of the key topics of the GVH's Digital Awareness Program is data protection. Children often lack information about how companies use their data and what types of data are collected by various service providers. The GVH stresses the need to educate children from a young age about the importance of safeguarding their personal information, as it can be exploited by cybercriminals, leading to serious financial consequences.

The GVH recommends being cautious about which websites to share personal data with, where to register, and what applications to download. The authority's free program is open for registration throughout the school year.

To protect personal data, the GVH advises using strong and unique passwords, employing professional password management tools, and enabling two-factor authentication for online accounts. It also suggests downloading applications only from official stores and limiting the sharing of personal information on social media.

Artificial intelligence is increasingly prevalent in daily life but poses significant data protection risks due to the vast amounts of data collected by applications. To engage young people, the GVH has announced a national competition for students in grades 5-8, allowing them to express their opinions and ideas about the future of artificial intelligence through presentations, short videos, and posters.

Additionally, the GVH held a professional conference on September 25, 2025, titled 'Digital Consumer Protection 2025,' discussing topics such as the intersection of consumer protection and artificial intelligence, the characteristics of influencer marketing, and the effects of dark patterns on consumer decisions. GVH President Csaba Balázs Rigó emphasized the need for a digital family protection movement during the conference.
