The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) has initiated a competition supervision procedure against SD Ltd. regarding its promotion of the 'Vertim' dietary supplement. The authority suspects that the company used misleading health-related claims in its marketing.

Specifically, the GVH noted that SD Ltd. promoted the product with statements suggesting significant weight loss, such as 'lose 8 kg in 2 months' and '36 kg with the help of the Vertim weight loss matrix.' These claims are likely in violation of sector regulations.

Additionally, the company made health claims that do not comply with relevant sector regulations, including assertions that the product 'prevents sugar absorption,' 'reduces cravings for sweets and carbohydrates,' and 'detoxifies.'

The initiation of this procedure does not imply that the company has committed a legal violation; it is aimed at clarifying the facts and proving any alleged violations. The investigation is expected to last three months, with the possibility of two extensions of up to two months each.

The GVH emphasizes the importance of careful formulation of health claims in the advertising of food products, particularly dietary supplements. The authority has observed that companies often make such claims but frequently make mistakes that lead to legal violations.

In April 2026, the GVH published a guide to assist compliant businesses in understanding the regulations surrounding health, nutrient composition, and therapeutic claims. The guide highlights that any health claim referring to the rate or extent of weight loss is prohibited.
