The Czech competition authority has determined that the 'deposit on card' banking service does not violate competition laws, enhancing consumer convenience.

The Czech Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS) recently evaluated the 'deposit on card' banking service, which allows clients of Československá obchodní banka, a.s., Česká spořitelna, a.s., and Raiffeisenbank, a.s. to make deposits via ATMs equipped with deposit functions.

As part of its oversight responsibilities, the ÚOHS focused on assessing the compliance of this service with competition rules and relevant legal regulations governing payment transactions.

Unlike a recent project involving a shared ATM network among other banks, the 'deposit on card' service does not involve network sharing or optimization of ATM locations. It operates by allowing deposits to the account linked to the issued payment card through any participating bank's ATM.

This service collaborates with card associations Mastercard and Visa, utilizing their technologies. The authority found no anticompetitive effects in this service and welcomed the development of ATM usage options, noting that the expansion of deposit locations significantly enhances consumer comfort.
