CCPC Takes Legal Action Against Homesavers for Price Display Violations

12.11.2024 | Irish competition authority

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) successfully prosecutes retailer Homesavers for failing to comply with price display laws.

The CCPC prosecuted the retail chain Homesavers for failing to adhere to price display laws, following a routine inspection at one of its stores in May 2023.

Inspectors found pricing violations, such as products not displaying prices or showing prices only in Sterling, instead of clearly in euro as required by EU law.

Despite issuing fines totaling €600 for the offenses, Homesavers' parent company, Centz Stores Ltd, failed to pay, leading to court proceedings initiated by the CCPC.

CCPC Chair, Brian McHugh, advocates for increased powers to impose substantial fines on companies violating consumer protection laws, aiming to enhance compliance and reduce pressure on the courts.
