The Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC) has reviewed a project that modifies the regulation of the common service portfolio of the National Health System (SNS) and the update procedure for orthoprosthetic products.
This project proposes extending the renewal period for orthoprosthetic services from three to five years, aligning with European Union regulations. However, the CNMC has expressed concerns regarding this extension, stating that there is not enough evidence to justify the increased period, especially in a dynamic market characterized by frequent innovations.
Additionally, the CNMC has analyzed a second project that aims to repeal the exceptional regulations established during the COVID-19 pandemic, which set maximum prices for certain health products. The authority does not oppose this repeal but emphasizes that such measures should only remain in place as long as the underlying crisis persists.
