The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is seeking public input on Australia Post's plan to raise stamp prices by 8.8% starting mid-2026.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has opened a consultation process to gather feedback from businesses and consumers regarding Australia Post's draft proposal to increase stamp prices for ordinary letters by 8.8% from mid-2026.

The proposed price changes include an increase from $1.70 to $1.85 for small letters, from $3.40 to $3.70 for large letters up to 125g, and from $5.10 to $5.55 for large letters between 125g and 250g. Additionally, Australia Post plans to raise prices for other reserved letter services, although these are outside the ACCC's price notification assessment.

While the ACCC will assess the proposed increases, it does not have the authority to approve or reject them; only the Minister for Communications can disapprove a price increase. The ACCC's assessment will consider Australia Post's ability to recover efficient costs and provide a reasonable rate of return.

The consultation period is open until March 13, 2026, and the ACCC encourages stakeholders to submit their views via email. A preliminary view from the ACCC will be released in the coming months, following the consultation process.
