OECD Invites Businesses to Participate in E-Commerce Competition Study

05.01.2025 | Latvian competition authority

The Competition Council of Latvia is calling for businesses using e-commerce platforms to participate in a survey aimed at understanding the competitive landscape in online retail.

The Competition Council (KP) of Latvia, in support of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), is inviting market participants who sell goods and/or services through e-commerce platforms to take part in a survey. This initiative is part of the TSI project, which aims to analyze the competition situation in the online retail sector in Latvia.

In 2024, KP, along with competition authorities from Poland and Lithuania, and the OECD, will launch a project under the European Union's technical assistance framework titled 'Competition in the Digital Sector: Market Research - Lithuania, Latvia, Poland.' The goal of this project is to enhance competitiveness in the digital markets of Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland.

During the project, the OECD, with the assistance of the involved countries' institutions, will conduct research on online retail platforms and their ecosystems in Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland. This research will identify key market players, potential competition issues, and provide recommendations for addressing these challenges. Additionally, training sessions and practical workshops will be organized to strengthen the capacity of the interested institutions.

KP encourages participation in the survey until January 24, 2025. Participation is anonymous, and the responses will not be disclosed to third parties. All data collected will be accessible only to the OECD and will not be known to any online retail platform or intermediary operating in these markets.
