In a keynote address at the Global Competition Review Cartels: Live! Conference, Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General Daniel Glad outlined the current landscape of criminal antitrust enforcement in the United States. He emphasized the importance of competition and the serious nature of antitrust crimes, which he described as fraud on the market.

Glad reported that the Antitrust Division (ATR) has been active, initiating nearly 100 criminal investigations in FY 2025, with a notable increase in cases filed compared to the previous year. He stressed the focus on individual accountability, stating that significant prison sentences are being sought for executives involved in cartel activities.

The keynote also highlighted the success of the Procurement Collusion Strike Force (PCSF), which has trained over 46,000 officials and opened more than 195 investigations, resulting in over $70 million in fines and restitution. Glad noted that procurement collusion is a priority due to its direct impact on taxpayers.

Additionally, the new Antitrust Whistleblower Rewards Program was introduced, offering financial incentives for individuals who report antitrust violations that lead to significant monetary recoveries. This program aims to create a new pipeline of leads and has already resulted in the first-ever whistleblower reward of $1 million for information leading to criminal charges.

Glad concluded by emphasizing the need for companies to foster a culture of internal reporting to mitigate risks associated with cartel conduct, as the landscape of antitrust enforcement continues to evolve.
