Velderhof, a furniture store specializing in recliner chairs for seniors, has agreed to change its selling practices after discussions with the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). The ACM's intervention was prompted by media reports highlighting the store's pressure tactics that encouraged quick purchase decisions, particularly targeting vulnerable senior consumers.

Following a segment on the consumer rights show Radar, which exposed misleading commercial practices, ACM received multiple consumer complaints about Velderhof's sales methods. The store had been offering discounts that required customers to make hasty decisions, leading to feelings of pressure among buyers.

In response to these concerns, Velderhof has implemented several changes, including additional training for employees on how to sell to seniors and adjustments to its website to ensure accurate pricing. The company has committed to providing consumers with ample time to make informed decisions without undue pressure.

ACM will continue to monitor Velderhof's practices to ensure compliance with consumer protection standards. The authority has various tools to address consumer issues and opted for direct confrontation in this case, which led to the necessary adjustments by Velderhof.
