New EU Regulation on Unfair Trading Practices in Agricultural Supply Chains

The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union have adopted Regulation (EU) 2026/697 to enhance cooperation among enforcement bodies regarding unfair trading practices in agricultural and food supply chains.

On March 11, 2026, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union adopted Regulation (EU) 2026/697, which establishes rules for cooperation among enforcement bodies responsible for implementing Directive (EU) 2019/633 on unfair trading practices in business relationships within the agricultural and food supply chain.

This regulation aims to ensure effective enforcement of the directive by facilitating collaboration and coordination among member states' enforcement authorities, particularly in cross-border cases.

The regulation came into force on April 9, 2026, and will be applicable starting September 10, 2027.
