Economic Committee Leaders Visit Croatian Competition Authority
The President and Vice President of the Croatian Economic Committee visited the Croatian Competition Authority to discuss its operations and challenges.

The President of the Croatian Economic Committee, Ivica Mesić, and Vice President Boris Piližota visited the Croatian Competition Authority (AZTN) to gain a deeper understanding of its work and the challenges it faces in enforcing its legal mandates.
During the meeting, alongside the Chair of the AZTN Council, Dr. Mirtha Kapural, council members and the chief economist participated. Dr. Kapural presented the scope of AZTN's work, explaining its organizational structure and the functioning of various departments. She highlighted the challenges AZTN faces, particularly regarding limited human and financial resources, alongside an increasing workload and complexity of cases.
The discussion also covered AZTN's important activity of sectoral market research, which helps in understanding market structures and relationships among businesses. Such research often leads to indications for initiating proceedings aimed at protecting market competition.
Special attention was given to AZTN's efforts in promoting competition law and policy, aiming to strengthen the culture of competition and raise awareness of its importance for economic development and consumer protection.
In discussions about staffing issues, the importance of hiring and training employees was emphasized, given the demanding and specialized nature of the work.
At the end of the meeting, Mesić and Piližota expressed their gratitude for the reception and satisfaction with AZTN's work and achievements. They praised the dedication of the staff and their professional approach in carrying out demanding procedures, emphasizing the importance of further strengthening AZTN's institutional independence and capacity for a transparent and competitive economic environment in Croatia.
