The Italian competition authority (AGCM) and the data protection authority (Garante Privacy) have formalized their collaboration through a newly signed protocol. This agreement aims to enhance the effectiveness of both institutions in their respective areas of activity and shared interests.

Under the protocol, AGCM and Garante Privacy will coordinate their actions in specific cases where the handling and use of personal data are relevant. They will provide mutual notifications when violations of regulations under each authority's jurisdiction are identified during their respective proceedings.

Additionally, the two authorities will exchange information periodically regarding their general intervention strategies, ongoing activities, and the outcomes of cases of common interest. They may also collaborate on joint inquiries and prepare joint reports for Parliament and the Government on matters of shared concern.

A technical committee will be established to oversee the coordination of their joint activities, consisting of officials responsible for the relevant areas. This committee will convene as necessary to discuss not only the activities of both institutions but also technical aspects related to the implementation, modification, and integration of the protocol.

The protocol is set to last for three years, during which AGCM and Garante Privacy commit to organizing regular meetings on topics of mutual interest and promoting information campaigns and training activities.
