The Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC) has published its 2024 annual report on the state of numbering in Spain, revealing that all provinces currently have over 100 blocks of geographical numbering available. This is attributed to measures taken since 2021 to assign blocks of 1,000 numbers instead of 10,000, allowing for better alignment with operators' actual needs.

In 2024, the CNMC processed 281 cases related to the numbering registry and requested information from 175 operators. The report indicates that there is no expected exhaustion of available numbering resources, thanks to ongoing preventive measures.

However, some provinces, including León, Cáceres, Málaga, Albacete, Valladolid, La Rioja, Badajoz, and Toledo, may require new allocations in the future. The report also highlights a significant increase in the efficiency of subassigned numbering, which has reached 85% due to new authorization criteria approved in November 2023.

Additionally, the CNMC's semiannual report on fixed subassigned numbering as of December 31, 2024, shows that the efficiency of subassigned geographical numbers improved from 77% in 2023 to 85% in 2024, while special rate numbers saw an increase from 17% to 80% efficiency.
