The Bundeskartellamt has given the green light for Johnson & Johnson, a major pharmaceutical and medical technology company, to acquire Shockwave Medical for around $13.1 billion. Shockwave Medical specializes in cardiovascular disease treatment technologies, including intravascular lithotripsy and coronary sinus reducers. The acquisition was scrutinized under the German Competition Act's transaction value threshold, allowing examination of deals with significant economic impact despite low turnover. The regulator found no direct competition issues, as the companies' products have limited overlap and are complementary in the cardiovascular treatment market.
