The Polish competition authority conducted a safety check on 50 sound toys and 41 interactive toys designed for children under the age of three. The inspection focused on various safety aspects, including sound levels, small parts, mechanical and physical properties, and labeling.
Out of 91 toys tested, 69 passed the safety standards. However, some toys were found to emit sound levels exceeding 110 dB, posing a risk of hearing damage. Other issues included small components, dangerous finishes, and a lack of required warnings and instructions in Polish.
Consumers are advised to pay attention to safety when selecting toys, especially during the holiday shopping season. It is crucial to choose age-appropriate toys that support a child's development without overwhelming their senses. Parents should check the noise level of toys in stores, as excessive decibels can lead to hearing damage.
When choosing gifts for young children, it is important to consider the following: ensure the toy is suitable for the child's age, read labels and warnings, verify the presence of information about the responsible party (manufacturer or importer), check for small parts, and look for the CE mark, which indicates compliance with EU safety standards.
If consumers possess any toys mentioned in the report as problematic, they should inform the seller and the Trade Inspection in their region. Full inspection results and consumer advice can be found in the reports and product lists provided by the authority.
