18.03.2025 | Croatian competition authority

Representatives from the Croatian Competition Authority participated in a seminar in Bilbao focused on competition issues in the tourism and transport sectors, highlighting key domestic cases.

The OECD-GVH Regional Competition Centre (RCC) hosted a seminar in Bilbao from March 18 to 20, 2025, in collaboration with the Basque Competition Authority and Deusto University. The event aimed to discuss competition challenges specifically related to the tourism and transport sectors, which are vital to both national and international economies.

During the seminar, participants explored the economic and social impacts of these sectors, emphasizing the significant entry and operational barriers that stakeholders often encounter. The discussions were designed to assist competition authorities in addressing these challenges effectively.

Mirta Kapural, PhD, the president of the Croatian Competition Council, shared insights from Croatia's experience in managing competition within the tourism and transport sectors. She presented two notable cases: the concentration between Eagle Hills and Sunčani Hvar in the tourism market, and the CCA's opinion on alleged anticompetitive practices by the local administration in Dubrovnik concerning taxi services.
