On September 29 and 30, Pierre Barthelmé, President of the Luxembourg competition authority, and Marco Estanqueiro, Vice-President, attended a meeting of the directors general of European competition authorities (ECA) organized by the Portuguese competition authority in Lisbon.

This meeting brought together leaders from competition authorities across the European Union, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, including representatives from the European Commission's Directorate-General for Competition. The two-day event focused on in-depth discussions regarding the major current challenges facing competition law.

The agenda covered a wide range of contemporary issues, including the future of merger control, the application of competition rules to digital markets, the role of competition policy in defense markets, and the next generation of tools to combat cartels.

This dialogue provided a valuable opportunity to share experiences, enhance cooperation, and reflect on how competition authorities can continue to ensure the effective enforcement of competition rules across Europe.
