Apple is required to ensure that its operating system, iPadOS, complies with the obligations set forth in the Digital Markets Act (DMA). This includes allowing users to choose their default web browser, enabling alternative app stores, and ensuring compatibility with accessory devices.
The EU Commission designated Apple as a gatekeeper for core platform services, adding iPadOS to the list on 29 April 2024. Apple subsequently published a compliance report on 1 November, outlining the steps taken to meet DMA requirements, which is available on the Commission's website.
The Commission will evaluate the effectiveness of Apple's measures for iPadOS compliance with the DMA. This assessment will consider feedback from relevant stakeholders, and if Apple's solutions are deemed non-compliant, formal enforcement actions under the DMA may be pursued.
