The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in the UK is considering remedies offered by Vandemoortele in relation to its acquisition of Délifrance. The merger would make Vandemoortele the largest supplier of frozen viennoiserie products in the UK, raising concerns about potential competition reduction.

A Phase 1 investigation revealed that the merger could lead to higher prices for consumers, prompting the CMA to seek solutions. To alleviate these concerns, Vandemoortele has proposed selling Délifrance's UK viennoiserie business along with two production facilities in France to an approved buyer.

The CMA believes that this divestiture could effectively address the competition issues identified. Senior Director for Mergers at the CMA, Sorcha O’Carroll, emphasized the importance of maintaining competition to protect consumer choice and quality.

Further details regarding the remedies and potential purchaser will be made available on the case page as the consultation process progresses.
