The Hungarian Competition Authority hosted a high-level meeting with competition authorities from Turkic states, focusing on collaboration in competition law and addressing challenges like inflation and artificial intelligence.

On April 29, 2025, the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) held a presidential-level meeting in Budapest with competition authorities from Turkic states, including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan. The meeting aimed to foster openness and mutual dialogue among the competition authorities, as emphasized by GVH President Csaba Balázs Rigó.

Key topics discussed included the rise of artificial intelligence technologies, effective measures against cartels, and strategies to combat inflation. The meeting also highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and knowledge sharing in enforcement, regulatory practices, and methodological experiences.

The Turkic States Organization (TÁSZ) was established in 2009 and includes Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan, with Hungary holding observer status since 2018. A formal cooperation platform among TÁSZ member states' competition authorities was initiated in January 2024 in Istanbul, aiming to enhance collaboration in competition policy enforcement.

During the meeting, participants discussed the competitive implications of artificial intelligence and shared experiences in combating anti-competitive agreements. The GVH presented its comprehensive market research on the competitive and consumer protection aspects of AI technologies conducted in 2024.

Additionally, the representatives addressed challenges posed by inflationary shocks and shared insights from the GVH's expedited sectoral investigations and its online price monitoring system. The meeting concluded with a joint declaration to continue and enhance mutual professional dialogue, focusing on areas that strengthen economic competitiveness and social welfare in participating countries.
