The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) has reported its effective operations, highlighting the collection of 2 billion HUF in fines for the central budget in 2026. The authority prioritizes the efficient use of resources and encourages cooperation with businesses to avoid lengthy court reviews.

Since 2020, under new leadership, the GVH has aimed to expedite procedures and reduce fines for compliant companies. The authority has actively applied cooperation opportunities provided by competition law, resulting in over 21 billion HUF in fine reductions and more than 10 billion HUF in direct consumer compensation since 2020.

In 2026, the GVH has imposed nearly 2 billion HUF in competition supervision fines, concluding significant investigations involving companies like Temu, eMAG, Maspex Olympos, and One Hungary. All fines imposed this year have been paid into the national budget, demonstrating the authority's effective enforcement.

Since 2021, the GVH has won over 82% of closed court cases, including a notable case against Booking in 2020, where a 2.5 billion HUF fine was upheld by the court in 2025. The authority clarifies that 'partially won' cases indicate that the court upheld some legal grounds for violations, requiring the GVH to recalculate fines, which must still be paid by the offending companies.

GVH President Csaba Balázs Rigó began his second six-year term on April 15, 2026. During his first term, the GVH closed 234 competition supervision cases, imposing over 40 billion HUF in fines, resulting in more than 104 billion HUF in documented social benefits for consumers, significantly exceeding the authority's budget.
