On June 16, 2025, the Belgian Competition Authority (BCA) granted approval for the Louyet Group to acquire sole control of the Discar Group. This acquisition was officially notified to the BCA on June 6, 2025, and the Louyet Group requested the application of a simplified procedure for the review.
The Louyet Group is a prominent player in the motor vehicle distribution sector, operating dealerships for several luxury and mainstream brands including BMW, Mini, Kia, Mazda, Land Rover, McLaren, Rolls Royce, Pininfarina, Jaguar, Aston Martin, and Lotus across Belgium and Luxembourg. Their operations include the retailing of new and used passenger cars, as well as providing maintenance, repair services, spare parts distribution, and bodywork services.
Similarly, the Discar Group is involved in the retail of new and used BMW, Mini, and Lotus vehicles, along with offering maintenance, repair services, bodywork services, and spare parts distribution for these brands. The activities of both groups overlap in several key markets, including the sale of new and used passenger cars, spare parts distribution, repair and maintenance services, and bodywork services.
In its decision, the BCA concluded that the conditions for applying the simplified procedure were satisfied and that the merger did not raise any competitive concerns. This approval marks a significant step for the Louyet Group in expanding its market presence in the motor vehicle distribution sector.
