Sander van Wesemael will take on the role of Director of the Policy and Communications Department at the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) starting March 1, 2026.

Sander van Wesemael has been appointed as the Director of the Policy and Communications Department of the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), effective March 1, 2026. He will oversee the strategic management of the department, which is dedicated to ensuring that markets function effectively for both consumers and businesses.

In his new role, van Wesemael will work closely with the Board and other directors to guide ACM in its mission-driven approach as a regulatory authority. His responsibilities include engaging with citizens, businesses, and civil-society organizations, as well as advising the Board on significant social developments.

Van Wesemael has been serving as the acting director since January 2025 and has a background in strategy and planning within ACM’s Energy Department. His previous experience includes managerial roles at the Dutch central bank and the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets. He holds a degree in Communication Sciences from the University of Amsterdam.

Martijn Snoep, Chairman of the Board of ACM, expressed satisfaction with the appointment, highlighting the importance of strategic adaptability in a changing environment. Van Wesemael emphasized ACM’s mission to enhance prosperity in the Netherlands by ensuring market efficiency, affordability, quality, and innovation.

The appointment was facilitated by the Dutch Directorate-General of the Senior Civil Service, which managed the recruitment process. Although the job posting was widely advertised, a suitable candidate was already identified prior to the selection process.
