The Croatian Competition Agency (CCA) has initiated an infringement proceeding under the Act on prohibition of unfair trading practices in the business-to-business food supply chain against Žitar d.o.o. to determine if the buyer used its strong bargaining power to impose unfair practices on wheat suppliers.

The CCA's investigation stemmed from a preliminary examination in the agri-food market, focusing on the compliance of retail sector buyers with the UTPs Act, including Žitar.

The CCA clarified that the initiation of the administrative procedure does not imply a confirmation of unfair trading practices. It will delve into the specifics of the business dealings between Žitar and its wheat suppliers to reach a decision based on concrete evidence.

Due to confidentiality obligations, the CCA refrains from commenting on ongoing cases, with the final decision expected to be disclosed on its website.
