The inaugural Future of Markets: Competition Summer School took place over four intensive days filled with expert discussions, practical experiences, and networking opportunities with professionals from both the public and private sectors.

Opened by the chairman of the Slovak competition authority, Juraj Beňa, the event featured presentations on its goals and agenda by deputy chairman Peter Demčák and LEAF director Branislav Kleskeň. Students gained insights into competition law, regulation, and market functioning directly from industry experts, applying their new knowledge to practical examples.

The program covered a wide range of topics related to competition and market operations, including cartels, mergers, abuse of dominance, private enforcement of competition law, public finance, and economic reforms.

Discussions were led by various experts from the Slovak competition authority and other organizations, including Juraj Šiška from LITFIN and Lucia Bónová from the European Commission. The broader economic and social context was provided by Miroslav Beblavý, Adam Marek from the Antimonopoly Office, and Ivan Mikloš, along with insights from the business community.

Students also visited ESET to learn about its operations and cybersecurity, and attended a lecture on the telecommunications sector at the Magenta Experience Center. The program included a tour of the Slovak National Theatre and various networking activities.

At the end of the summer school, students shared their experiences and feedback, receiving diplomas for their successful participation. The event highlighted the engagement and curiosity of young people in Slovakia, who actively discussed and connected their new knowledge with practical situations.

The Slovak competition authority expressed gratitude to all the speakers who volunteered their time and expertise, as well as to the students who participated in the first edition of the summer school.
