The CNMC has verified the net cost of the universal postal service (SPU) provided by Correos in 2012, reducing the compensation to 103.4 million euros from Correos' initial calculation of 114.9 million euros. The CNMC had been unable to exercise its competences in this area for 10 years due to a lack of an approved cost calculation methodology, which was only finalized in June 2021. This correction impacts Correos' financial obligations and future liquidations, highlighting the importance of accurate cost calculations for designated operators providing universal postal services.
