The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) supports breaking the link between natural gas prices and heat rates, advocating for cost-based rates to better protect consumers from high costs.

26.03.2024 | Dutch competition authority

The Netherlands ACM recommends decoupling the natural gas price from heat rates to ensure fair pricing for consumers. By proposing cost-based rates, ACM aims to protect consumers from sudden increases in rates due to supplier costs. The proposal requires adjustments from heat suppliers and the Dutch legislature, with an implementation date of January 1, 2025. ACM also monitors and regulates maximum rates to prevent suppliers from making unreasonable profits.
