On April 22, 2026, the European Commission announced the AccelerateEU initiative, which focuses on ensuring affordable and secure energy through accelerated measures.

This initiative is designed to provide immediate relief to the most vulnerable European households and industries, while also promoting a reliable path towards energy independence.

The AccelerateEU initiative includes both short-term and long-term structural measures aimed at reducing dependence on volatile fossil fuel markets and enhancing Europe's resilience to future risks through clean energy from domestic sources and electrification.

Key proposed measures include full coordination of implementation at the member state level, establishment of a new fuel monitoring center, targeted consumer protection measures, acceleration of the transition to clean energy, strengthening of the electricity grid, and support for investments.

The European Commission will also host a summit on clean energy investment, bringing together financial services, industry leaders, project implementers, and public funders to expedite private financing.
