The Polish competition authority has taken action against Live Nation, imposing a fine of over 15 million PLN for including unfair clauses in their event regulations. These clauses made it difficult for consumers to receive refunds for canceled events and created confusion regarding what items could be brought into venues.
UOKiK President Tomasz Chróstny criticized the company's regulations, which effectively prohibited attendees from bringing bags and imposed unclear restrictions. Consumers reported confusion at entry points, with inconsistent enforcement of rules leading to frustration and uncertainty.
Additionally, the authority found that Live Nation's refund policy was problematic, requiring consumers to submit requests within six months to receive their money back for canceled events. This practice was deemed unacceptable, as it placed undue burden on consumers.
As a result of these findings, Live Nation is required to refund affected consumers and will face penalties unless they appeal the decision. The company must also communicate the details of the ruling and the refund process to ticket buyers through various channels.
In response to consumer concerns, UOKiK plans to publish a guide outlining the rights of event attendees, helping them navigate ticket purchases and understand their rights in case of changes to event terms.
