Starting from July, San Benedetto S.p.A. has modified its labels, packaging, website, and advertisements by removing environmental claims about the zero impact of its Ecogreen bottle production.
The Italian Competition Authority (AGCM) concluded a successful moral suasion with the company, which led to the removal of potentially misleading environmental assertions, known as green claims, used to promote the Ecogreen product line.
Previously, the labels on Ecogreen bottles, the website www.sanbenedetto.it, and promotional videos claimed that the production of mineral water bottles did not result in greenhouse gas emissions or even had a positive environmental impact.
Following the AGCM's intervention, San Benedetto removed the CO2 Zero Impact claim from its labels, packaging, and all commercial communications, including TV spots and the website, and modified the environmental assertions and graphics that referenced natural elements.
Additionally, the company has added a QR code on the label that links to a new section of the website dedicated to sustainability. The authority emphasizes the importance of accurately communicating companies' commitments to mitigate the negative effects of their activities regarding greenhouse gas emissions.
