Estonian Energy Market Overview for May 2025

The Estonian competition authority has released an overview of the energy markets for May 2025, highlighting electricity and gas prices across the Baltic region.

According to data from the electricity market operator Nord Pool, the average electricity price in Estonia for May 2025 was €67.63/MWh, while Latvia and Lithuania reported prices of €67.89/MWh and €67.64/MWh, respectively. In contrast, Finland's average price was significantly lower at €18.14/MWh.

Forecasts for electricity and gas prices indicate that the highest expected prices will occur in the first quarter of 2026, with projected rates of €94.91/MWh for electricity and €35.75/MWh for gas.

The report also includes information on the average price of natural gas traded on the Baltic-Finnish gas exchange GET Baltic, which was €37.20/MWh in May, according to the Baltic Gas Spot Index (BGSI). Additionally, a comparison of electricity and gas packages shows that as of July 8, 2025, the most affordable option for electricity was the market package, while for gas, the variable price package was the cheapest.
