The Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC) has authorized the acquisition of Esteve Teijin Healthcare, S.L. by Oximesa, S.L.U., with specific commitments aimed at mitigating competition risks.
This acquisition is significant as Esteve Teijin is the only company capable of exerting competitive pressure on the two largest operators in the market, Oximesa and Air Liquide. The CNMC's in-depth investigation revealed that the merger would increase market concentration and potentially lead to coordinated behavior among the main players.
To address these concerns, Oximesa has committed to invest cost savings from the acquisition into improving service quality and innovation. They will also compare service quality between Oximesa and Esteve Teijin and ensure that any price increases for home respiratory therapies are limited to the rate of inflation over the next three years.
The CNMC has deemed these commitments sufficient to resolve the identified competition issues, allowing the merger to proceed.
