PPF Group's Acquisition of Nordic Telecom Cleared with Commitments

30.09.2024 | Czech competition authority

The Office for the Protection of Competition has approved the merger between PPF Group and Nordic Telecom, allowing PPF to gain sole control over the telecommunications company, subject to commitments to preserve market competition.

The Office for the Protection of Competition has given the green light to the acquisition of Nordic Telecom Regional s.r.o. by PPF TMT Holdco 2 B.V. through O2 Czech Republic a.s., with the condition that commitments are met to ensure competition in the relevant market.

PPF Group, an international financial and investment group, operates in various sectors including telecommunications through O2 Czech Republic a.s. and CETIN a.s. On the other hand, Nordic Telecom Regional provides a range of telecommunications services in the Czech Republic.

During the merger investigation, concerns were raised about potential competition issues in the retail fixed internet access market in specific areas where the merging companies overlap. In response, PPF Group offered commitments to maintain or create wholesale offers, ensure fair pricing, and invest in advanced technology over the next five years.

The Office deemed these commitments satisfactory to address competition concerns and approved the merger, building on PPF Group's previous investment commitments in the sector.
