CNMC Releases Provisional Settlements for Electricity and Gas Sectors

The Spanish competition authority, CNMC, has published provisional settlements for the electricity and gas sectors, revealing significant financial discrepancies and trends in energy consumption.

The Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC) has announced the provisional settlements for the electricity sector for 2025 and the gas sector for 2026. These reports highlight financial imbalances and trends in energy consumption.

In the electricity sector, the provisional settlement for 2025 showed a temporary deviation of -1,804.57 million euros, with total revenues of 12,525.32 million euros against costs of 14,329.89 million euros. This resulted in a coverage coefficient of 85.1% due to temporary mismatches between income and costs.

For renewable energies, cogeneration, and waste, the total settlement from January 1 to December 31, 2025, amounted to 4,355.7 million euros, with 4,307.9 million euros covered by the electricity sector. The report also noted that the amount payable to producers reached 186.45 million euros.

In the gas sector, the third provisional settlement for 2026 reported total revenues of 340.41 million euros, a 12% increase compared to the previous year. The demand for gas in the 2026 gas year was recorded at 56.8 TWh, also reflecting a 12% increase from the previous year.
