The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is currently gathering feedback from businesses and consumers regarding Australia Post's draft proposal to increase stamp prices for ordinary letters by 8.8% from mid-2026. The proposed changes include raising the price of small letters from $1.70 to $1.85 and large letters from $3.40 to $3.70, among other adjustments.

In addition to the stamp price increases, Australia Post plans to adjust prices for several other reserved letter services, although these are not subject to the ACCC's price notification assessment. Notably, the prices for concession stamps and seasonal greeting card stamps will remain unchanged.

ACCC Commissioner Anna Brakey emphasized the importance of stakeholder feedback in shaping the ACCC's assessment of the proposal, which will be informed by public consultations open until March 13, 2026. The ACCC is tasked with evaluating whether to object to the proposed price increases under the Competition and Consumer Act.

Australia Post has also indicated potential future price increases for the years 2027 and 2028, but these will not be part of the current assessment. The ACCC's evaluation will consider Australia Post's ability to recover efficient costs while providing reserved letter services.

Following the consultation process, the ACCC will publish a preliminary view on the proposal and facilitate further public consultation before making a final assessment. Australia Post's last price notification was reviewed in 2024, and the ACCC had previously made recommendations regarding Australia Post's cost allocation and customer engagement.
