The Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC) has convened meetings with representatives from major electric companies including Iberdrola, Endesa, and Naturgy, as well as the Red Eléctrica de España (REE) and other sector associations. These discussions aimed to assess the current state of the electric system in light of recent voltage variations reported by REE.
During the meetings, CNMC officials, including President Cani Fernández and Vice President Ángel García Castillejo, gathered firsthand observations and proposals from the sector regarding supply security and system stability. This engagement reflects CNMC's commitment to transparency and institutional dialogue.
In response to a proposal from REE, the CNMC initiated an urgent public consultation to modify several operational procedures temporarily. This is intended to introduce urgent measures for stabilizing voltage in the Spanish electrical system. The CNMC emphasizes that any measures adopted will be exceptional and temporary.
After the public consultation concludes, the CNMC will evaluate the feedback received and may approve the modifications, which will be published in the Official State Bulletin. The authority will continue to monitor the system and the effects of these measures as part of its regular oversight functions.
