Matthew Boswell, the Commissioner of Competition, has declared that he will conclude his term on December 17, 2025, ahead of the originally scheduled end in February 2026. He cited personal reasons for this decision.
Since joining the Competition Bureau in 2011 and becoming Commissioner in 2018, Boswell has expressed pride in leading a dedicated team focused on protecting and promoting competition in Canada. His tenure has emphasized proactive enforcement and the promotion of competition-enhancing policies across various government levels.
Following Boswell's departure, Jeanne Pratt, the Senior Deputy Commissioner of the Mergers and Monopolistic Practices Branch, will assume the role of acting Commissioner starting December 18, 2025. Pratt is recognized for her extensive experience in competition law and is expected to guide the Bureau effectively during this transition.
Under Boswell's leadership, the Bureau has aimed to deliver competitive market benefits to Canadians, including improved affordability, innovation, and economic growth.
