Fiber Broadband Dominates in Spain with 86% Market Share by End of 2023

Fiber broadband accounted for 86% of broadband connections in Spain by the end of 2023, driving retail sector revenue growth and increased 5G coverage.


In Spain, the broadband market saw a significant shift towards fiber optics, with 86% of broadband connections being fiber-based by the end of 2023. This led to a 0.5% increase in retail sector revenues compared to the previous year, with major players like Movistar, Vodafone, Orange, and Grupo MasMovil dominating the market.

The deployment of fiber optic (FTTH) networks continued to rise, reaching 79.2 million FTTH broadband accesses, an increase of 5 million from the previous year. Additionally, 94.3% of broadband lines had connection speeds of 100 Mbps or higher, and 85.4% of the population had 5G coverage.

Furthermore, subscriptions to paid audiovisual content surged to nearly 30 million subscribers, indicating a growing demand for premium content services.
