Greek Competition Commission Approves Mergers in Wine and Real Estate Sectors

30.04.2024 | Greek competition authority

The Greek Competition Commission has unanimously approved mergers involving the creation of a joint venture in the wine industry and changes in control in a real estate company, without raising serious competition concerns.

The Greek Competition Commission has approved two mergers: one involving the creation of a joint venture in the wine industry by 'ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ ΟΙΝΟΠΟΙΕΙΑ' and 'ΤΟΥΡΙΣΤΙΚΕΣ ΕΠΙΧΕΙΡΗΣΕΙΣ ΜΕΣΣΗΝΙΑΣ', and another related to changes in control at 'ΑΜΠΕΛΩΝΕΣ ΝΑΒΑΡΙΝΟ'.

'ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ ΟΙΝΟΠΟΙΕΙΑ' is involved in wine production and non-alcoholic beverages, while 'ΤΟΥΡΙΣΤΙΚΕΣ ΕΠΙΧΕΙΡΗΣΕΙΣ ΜΕΣΣΗΝΙΑΣ' operates mainly in the hotel sector. 'ΑΜΠΕΛΩΝΕΣ ΝΑΒΑΡΙΝΟ' is currently engaged in grape production and wine trading.

The Commission assessed the transactions' interrelated nature, the nature of the acquired control, and the operational autonomy of the joint venture. It also evaluated relevant markets, such as grape cultivation/production for winemaking and wine distribution/trading, concluding that competition conditions would not be significantly altered.
