08.04.2025 | Latvian competition authority
The Latvian Competition Authority, known as Konkurences padome, is adopting a results-oriented approach for its 2025 agenda, emphasizing key aspects of competition law enforcement and promotion. The authority's priorities include both oversight and regulatory improvements, as well as strengthening the culture of competition within the market.
A significant focus will be placed on preventing competition distortions in public procurement. This includes investigating serious violations of competition law, addressing distortions in public procurement processes, and providing methodological support for public buyers in recovering losses incurred during procurement.
Additionally, the authority plans to conduct in-depth market studies in economically significant sectors such as food retail, finance, healthcare, and digital markets. These studies aim to identify potential competition restrictions and encourage necessary improvements in these sectors.
Moreover, the development of regulatory frameworks is crucial, with planned amendments to the Law on Prohibition of Unfair Trading Practices and the Competition Law, along with several other competition law regulations.
Alongside these initiatives, the Competition Authority will continue to modernize its internal processes by developing digital tools and enhancing public understanding of competition. This includes strengthening collaboration with businesses, public entities, non-governmental organizations, and other partners.
