The Bundeskartellamt, Germany's competition authority, has granted approval for Infineon Technologies AG to acquire the automotive Ethernet business of Marvell Technology, Inc. This acquisition is significant as Marvell's Ethernet components are primarily used for data transmission within the networks of software-defined vehicles (SDVs).

Andreas Mundt, President of the Bundeskartellamt, stated that the acquisition allows Infineon to strengthen its position in a future-oriented market by complementing its existing product portfolio. Investigations involving several customers and competitors revealed that the market is characterized by a wide and open competitive landscape, product interchangeability due to standardization, and strong demand from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and automotive manufacturers.

Infineon is a global provider of semiconductor solutions across various applications. In the automotive sector, the company already manufactures microcontroller units necessary for SDVs. This transaction enables Infineon to enter the automotive Ethernet market, expanding its offerings and developing systems for SDVs specifically for OEMs. Despite the complementary strengthening of Infineon's competitive position, the Bundeskartellamt's investigations concluded that the acquisition would not worsen the current competitive situation in the affected product markets, as there is a sufficient number of competitors present.
